Congratulations to Palmetto Bugs for going undefeated and winning the GSL Fall League

Regular season.  The playoffs will take place 12/2/07 & 12/9/07 in a single elimination format.  We will be using 2 fields on 12/2/07 so please make note of your location and get directions to the CORRECT field.  This fall season has been one of the best with 16 teams competing and the overall parity of the league.  10 teams were within just 3 wins of each other, so the playoffs will be exciting to see who emerges from the pack.  Due to the Rockstars forfeiting their final 3 games they will not participate in the playoffs so a 15 team bracket was used.  Good Luck to ALL TEAMS.

Final Week Recap

Punisher’s vs Bulldawgs.

Due to the Rockstars forfeits the Punishers faced off against the Bulldawgs once again.  The bulldawgs made them work for every point and used a much improved defense and a new QB to keep the game close.  With the aid of 2 interceptions returned for TD’s the Punishers won the game 19-6.

MVP:  Mark Cline

Blitz vs Regulators.

The game of the day proved to be just that.  This game went back and forth all game.  The Blitz held the lead 14-13 when the Regulators took over the ball at their own 20 with only 35 sec. left in the game.  4 plays later a swing pass to “Swoop” but them ahead 19-14 with 5 sec. left.  After 1 quick play and a penalty the Blitz still had a shot to win from the 40 but the Regulators rush wouldn’t allow it as “Swoop” made the sack and preserved the win 19-14.

MVP:  Swoop

 BNK vs Redzone.

Another tight game that went down to the wire.  Redzone was able to win 13-6 in an evenly matched up game.  A late interception with BNK driving for the tie kept Redzone in the winners circle and a .500 record heading into the playoffs.

MVP:  C.J.

 BNK vs SW Raiders.

After a tough loss BNK faced a fresh SW Raider team that was clicking on all cylinders.  Quinten, “Mr. MVP”, and Corey proved to be too much for BNK to handle and a swarming defense and quick offense helped lead them to a 25-6 victory over BNK.

MVP:  Corey

 Goin Deep vs SW Raiders.

Coming off their win SW was ready to make it 2 for the day when they faced Goin Deep.  Goin Deep struggled offensively but made up for it with defense.  SW had a chance to tie at the end of the 1st half with the ball at the 2 yard line.  But a failed dive play, knocked down pass attempt and another failed dive play kept Goin Deep up 6-0 with 20 min. to play.  Goin Deep found the end zone 1 more time to go up 12-0, but SW would not roll over.  They again worked down to the goal line but this time spread the field and worked into the end zone to pull with 5 pts at 12-7.  With less the 2 min. left Goin Deep was able to pick up a couple 1st downs and run out the clock and hold on to a 12-7 victory.

MVP:  Jack

 District 7 Regional Tournament

Hats off to Goin Deep and Just Rite who represented our league in the District Regional 7-Man tournament this past Saturday.  On last minute notice these teams went out and competed against other counties teams in a regional tournament.  Goin Deep went 1-2 only losing to the eventual Champions and runner ups from Henry Co. and Morgan Co.  Just Rite went 2-1 and lost out on a controversial “tie breaker” which allowed a team that they beat heads up to advance in the tournament.  Just Rite beat Henry Co. #2 and Newton Co. #1, and scored a tournament high 53 pts (in only 21 minutes) against Newton Co.  Nice job teams way to represent the GSL.

    Halloween Havoc 7-Man Results

Congrats! to Quickstrike of New Orleans for winning the Halloween Havoc Flag Football Tournament. In Atlanta on Nov. 2, 2007Quickstrike got some revenge this tournament by defeating Palmetto Bugs 21-20 in the Championship game.  They put the Bugs in the loser’s bracket with a 21-0 victory in the winner’s bracket final.  The Palmetto Bugs were able to advance to the championship game by easily defeating Pfuzion to get the rematch with Quickstrike.  This time Palmetto could not hold on to their lead after jumping out 13-0.  Quickstrike was able to fight back and take a 21-20 lead with 4:00 minutes left in the game.  Palmetto worked their way down the field and had the ball at the 2yds line with 28 sec. left.  But on 4th down Dion rolled left and with no one open tried to run it in but was stopped just short of the goal line.  Quickstrike takes home the $1000 cash in a hard fought and physical game.

1- Quickstrike    4-0

 2- Palmetto Bugs  3-2

 3- Pfuzion  3-2

4- Tough Draw 2-2

5- Regulators  1-2

6- Just Rite  1-2

7- Goin Deep 0-2

8- The Punishers  0-2

Website Poll Winner

The League has spoken and the Winner of the “improvements to the league” was Longer Games.  So starting in our Winter Season we will run (2) 23 minute halves adding 6 minutes of play to your games.  The only other time change will be having the 1 minute regulation clock at the end of BOTH halves.  Thanks for your replies and I will continue to do my best to make this the BEST LEAGUE around.

Please contact me with any questions. I hope you all have a safe and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
